Sweet Grass County Lookups

We're looking for people who own books, manuscripts, CD's, or other Sweet Grass county resources who would be willing to do lookups for others. If you can help, please E-mail your name and the title(s) of the materials you own.

Whether you are using the services of our lookup volunteers, or deciding to act as a volunteer yourself, it is very important that you read the following:

US GenWeb will not tolerate any copyright violations. Lookup requests should be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple. Information given will be minimal, for example if it is a cemetery book lookup, the information will be the name of the cemetery and the dates on the headstone. Please do not ask for "everybody with X surname" or an entire family group, or for hardcopies to be mailed; the volunteers have been asked not to comply with such requests. Our lookups will extend to searching the book to determine if the book would be helpful to you in your research. Should the book prove useful, we can provide the author's address and ordering information. The USGenWeb Project will endeavor to get a written statement from each copyright holder which stipulates which books may be used for lookups.

When requesting a lookup, please follow these guidelines in your e-mail message to the volunteer:

§ Subject should read, "SWEET GRASS COUNTY LOOKUP".

§ In the first line of your message, please list the name of the reference you wish checked.

§ Limit your request to one or two specific names.

§ Be sure to say "thank you" to the volunteer who helps you.

SWEET GRASS COUNTY RESEARCHERS

If you would like someone in the county to do some research for you or get you some information, contact Donna Harkness. She has done extensive research on her own genealogy and has walked all of the cemeteries of the county creating a data base.

Jan Counter is a long time resident of Sweet Grass County and is willing to do research. She has taught in the Sweet Grass County schools. She is also interested in the Crazy Mountain Museum and assisted in creating its rural school exhibit. Her husband's family has lived in Sweet Grass since before 1900.
